What happens when the pathway you planned for in Australia suddenly changes?
Visa Talk at Sunset: On the Edge is a community discussion series exploring the real-life experiences of international graduates and temporary visa holders who have invested time in Australian study, employment or skills development, only to encounter unexpected limitations, policy settings or adverse immigration outcomes affecting the pathway they had anticipated.
Through real stories and moderated conversations, the series will look beyond legislation and visa criteria to explore the practical and personal impact of migration uncertainty. It will provide a space to hear directly from people who have experienced changes or limitations affecting their migration journey and to better understand what those experiences can mean for individuals, families and the wider community.
The discussions are especially relevant to international graduates, temporary visa holders, migrants, employers, students, families and members of the Darwin community interested in contemporary migration issues.

A moderated discussion about navigating alternative skills-development or migration pathways, the impact of adverse outcomes, and the personal realities behind migration uncertainty.

What happens when a dependent child grows into adulthood in Australia?
Visa Talk at Sunset: Beyond 23 is a three-part educational and community discussion series exploring the experiences of young adults who came to Australia as dependent children on their parents’ temporary visas, but later face the possibility of no longer being included in their parents’ future visa pathway.
Through real stories and moderated conversations, the series will look at what it is like to grow up in Australia as part of a migrant family, the uncertainty that can arise when a young adult’s visa circumstances begin to differ from their parents’, and why families should start thinking about future pathways before the relevant age threshold is reached.

Visa Talk at Sunset: Beyond the Backpack is a four-part educational discussion series exploring the real-life experiences of Australia’s Working Holiday Makers under the Subclass 417 and 462 visa programs. Held every Thursday throughout September 2026 at DKJ Studio in Darwin, the series will feature authentic stories and moderated conversations about travelling, working, building connections and adapting to life in Australia.
Beyond visa requirements, the discussions will highlight the opportunities, challenges and cultural experiences that shape the Working Holiday journey.
